JBL Summit Series Expands

At High End Munich 2025, JBL introduced three new members to its Summit Series — Makalu, Pumori, and Ama —

..each named after a Himalayan peak and designed to reflect the power, clarity, and emotional scale of those towering icons. This expanded collection now spans five models and represents a focused effort by Harman Luxury Audio Group to elevate the home listening experience with artistry, presence, and technical refinement.

Makalu

The Summit Makalu leads this trio. Its form is tall and unapologetically sculptural, offered in high-gloss piano black with platinum accents or a deep ebony veneer threaded with gold. Designed for large, acoustically open spaces, Makalu delivers commanding scale and precision. Its sonic signature is built around dynamic strength and effortless control, resulting in a soundstage that is as vivid as it is vast. While most loudspeakers retreat into the background, Makalu insists on a presence — both visual and auditory — that matches the architectural drama of its namesake.

Pumori

Slightly more understated in size but no less focused in execution, the Summit Pumori captures an altogether different energy. It is voiced with balance and warmth in mind, tuned to reflect the tonality and grace of acoustic instruments and human voices alike. The shape is softened, the surfaces finely finished. In rooms that call for musical honesty over scale, Pumori delivers with composure. There is texture, transparency, and space between the notes — a kind of sonic grace that invites long listening sessions and quiet introspection.

Ama

For those who prefer compact form without compromise, the Summit Ama offers the same engineering DNA in a stand-mount design. Like its full-range siblings, it carries the signature JBL compression driver and horn architecture, ensuring clarity and intimacy across its range. Resting on a dedicated stand of steel and aluminum, the Ama is refined and highly articulate, drawing listeners inward rather than outward. It is ideal for spaces where intimacy, not loudness, defines the experience.

Design as Intent

What unites the Makalu, Pumori, and Ama is not only their technological lineage but also their physical presence. Each cabinet is internally braced and shaped to reduce distortion. Materials like carbon fiber, rhodium, and aluminum aren’t included for ornament but for integrity and performance. The isolation feet are not generic add-ons, but purpose-built to anchor each speaker as if it were resting on bedrock.

This new chapter of the Summit Series isn't merely a line extension. It represents a design language that treats loudspeakers as objects of enduring craftsmanship — built to live within architecture, not just sound within it.

Availability

Makalu, Pumori, and Ama will be available globally later in 2025 through JBL’s authorized retailers. Pricing begins at $19,995 for a pair of Summit Ama with stands, followed by $29,995 for the Summit Pumori, and $44,995 for the Summit Makalu.
