Sonance has just released a new, more affordable landscape speaker system to provide high-quality outdoor entertainment with an unobtrusive appearance. The SONARRAY SR1 SYSTEM raises the bar of outdoor entertainment; featuring eight small satellite speakers that are evenly, yet discreetly, distributed throughout garden beds in addition to a below-ground subwoofer, which disperses bass from a canopy hidden under the foliage. This results in high quality, crystal clear sound that is the perfect volume throughout the entire back yard.

The SONARRAY SR1 SYSTEM eliminates problematic loud areas that can make conversation difficult while at the same time addressing quiet areas where you can barely hear the music. Due to the nature of the setup all of the speakers face inwards causing all sound to be contained within your back yard, so your neighbors will love it as well!

The SONARRAY SR1 SYSTEM includes:

8 Satellite speakers

1 In-ground subwoofer

Powered by a standard AV receiver or two channel amplifier.

SUNNYVALE, CA – December 11, 2012 – Kaleidescape, Inc. today announced an industry-first service that enables the digital delivery of movie purchases over the Internet with video and audio quality equal to Blu-ray Disc™ and DVD. The new service is initially backed by a multi-year license agreement with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and marks the first agreement that enables the electronic delivery of digital movies containing all of the extra content found on physical Blu-ray Discs or DVDs.

Customers can now purchase and download movies directly to their Kaleidescape Systems from the newly launchedKaleidescape Store that is designed exclusively for online movie sales. This makes it easier than ever for Kaleidescape customers to expand their film libraries. Once a customer’s system is linked to an account on the Kaleidescape Store website, the titles of their current movie collection are automatically cataloged and kept up to date. This makes it simple to discover movies missing from a collection and avoid duplicate purchases. In addition, the Kaleidescape Store provides the ability to buy multiple movie titles by a favorite actor or director, all available Academy Award® winning titles, and more with a single mouse click.

Warner Bros. Digital Distribution is the first to license content for sale through the new Kaleidescape Store, providing nearly 3,000 premium films and over 8,000 television episodes. To ensure Kaleidescape System owners have access to their movies on their mobile devices, Kaleidescape has also licensed UltraViolet rights for inclusion with the purchase of most titles. Future plans will enable the consumer to add movies already purchased on disc to their UltraViolet Collection for a small fee.

“This new distribution deal dramatically improves the way customers buy movies which, until now, has remained virtually the same for the past 15 years,” said Ralph Tarnofsky, Founder and President of Professional Audio Consultants in Millburn, NJ. “Now, multiple inconveniences in the purchasing process are completely eliminated. Customers no longer need to keep track of titles already purchased, wait for discs to arrive, or spend time organizing the discs. Until now, the conveniences of digital delivery also meant compromising on quality and special features. Now Kaleidescape customers – who are avid movie collectors – can enjoy a ‘no compromise’ buying experience.”

“The potential represented by the Kaleidescape System and the new Kaleidescape Store is, in many respects, similar to the role the iPod® played in kick-starting online music purchases,” said Michael Malcolm, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Kaleidescape. “Our movie servers enable customers to consolidate their film libraries – whether from disc or download – for immediate playback. We believe that this consolidation is a pre-requisite for mass adoption of electronic movie purchases. By introducing the Kaleidescape Store in conjunction with the Warner Bros. deal, we are simplifying how movies are purchased and enjoyed at home.”

How it Works
Movies purchased on the Kaleidescape Store website can be downloaded and enjoyed on Kaleidescape movie servers through the newly released kOS 5.0 operating system. Downloads take full advantage of the system’s award-winning user interface that makes it easy for customers to find and select the film to enjoy from any television in the home. Movies can be viewed directly from the beginning without advertisements, trailers and extraneous menus. Thanks to bookmarks in the exclusive Kaleidescape Movie Guide, users can jump directly to the most memorable scenes in a movie, or to any song in a concert.

Kaleidescape’s high definition downloads will feature audio and video that equals Blu-ray Disc quality. This includes video resolution up to 1080p, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio lossless soundtracks, and 24 frame-per-second progressive scan video. Standard definition downloads feature audio and video that precisely matches DVD quality. The extra content such as director’s commentary, alternate endings, deleted scenes, and documentaries found on a disc are included in the download.

Pricing and Availability
The Kaleidescape Store is now live in the United States. For additional information on an invitation to use the service, availability of movie titles, or pricing, please visit https://store.kaleidescape.com.

About Kaleidescape
Kaleidescape is pioneering the development of movie servers that redefine how film enthusiasts purchase, organize and enjoy their movie collections. Featuring a breakthrough user interface that gives viewers unprecedented flexibility and control over the movies they watch, the Kaleidescape system makes it easy for customers to select and enjoy films from their entire collection of DVD, Blu-ray and downloaded movies from any television in the home. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, Kaleidescape sells its products through custom installation dealers and distributors throughout the world.

Two events are happening at the end of 2012 which may bring life as you know it to an end. One is the Mayan calendar will come to an end, and the other is what is called the Analog Sunset. While the former is a myth, the latter is a reality you will have to contend with.

The days of analog video are coming to an end.

Before we get into the details of what the Analog Sunset means to you, let’s cover some basic history. While the Analog Sunset will happen in a single day, this transition has been years in coming.

January 1, 2008: Sky Satellite dropped all analog connectors from its high-definition satellite receivers, leaving only HDMI.

May 1, 2009: New FCC regulations allow more encryption on cable boxes and satellite receivers; Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) continues to press the FCC to plug the “analog hole.”

January 1, 2011: The Analog Sunset begins. All Blu-ray Disc players are required to transmit only standard definition video via analog connectors; high-definition video must be encrypted on HDMI only.

Looking to the future

The key driver of the Analog Sunset is the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) which is the content protection rules adopted by Blu-ray Disc and some other video content providers. AACS is a consortium that includes such industry heavyweights as Disney, Intel, Microsoft, Panasonic, Warner Bros., IBM, Toshiba and Sony. It is within the AACS “Final Adopter Agreement” that the term Analog Sunset found its origins.

2.2.2.1 Analog Sunset – 2010. With the exception of Existing Models, any Licensed Player manufactured after December 31, 2010 shall limit analog video outputs for Decrypted AACS Content to SD Interlace Modes [composite video, s-video, 480i component video and 576i video] only.

2.2.2.2 Analog Sunset – 2013. No Licensed Player that passes Decrypted AACS Content to analog video outputs may be manufactured or sold by Adopter after December 31, 2013.

What this means in practice is that Blu-ray Disc (BD) players manufactured since the beginning of last year have included the ability to down-res high-definition video on analog outputs at the option of content owners (Hollywood studios), and beginning next year all new BD players will have no analog outputs at all. By 2014, players with analog outputs cannot be sold at retail.

In reality, many BD players from last year didn’t have analog outputs on them already, as manufacturers are keenly aware that this deadline is approaching.

While the AACS system specifically limits Blu-ray Disc players, other manufacturers have also followed suit to prepare for the MPAA and content creators to apply AACS rules to internet video, and to high-definition television content from cable and satellite providers.

One example of this move away from analog video is the latest AppleTV from Apple, Inc. This new digital video component has no analog outputs at all.

We’ve also heard that Time Warner Cable and DirecTV will soon have high-definition receivers with no analog video outputs.

What you can do to prepare

The good news is existing equipment you may own will still work, with a singular caveat. The BD players manufactured before 2011 will support what the AACS is calling an Image Constraint Token (ICT). This allows content owners (like Disney) to include an ICT on a Blu-ray Disc which will limit analog outputs to standard-definition video as paragraph 2.2.2.1 describes above. There is no way to ensure each movie you want does not include the ICT.

What is most important is for those who are ready to install a new video system to make sure to prepare for every future eventuality. AVIR recommends the new third-generation Crestron DigitalMedia system which delivers true HD 1080p video with multi-channel audio hundreds of feed over a single wire. The DigitalMedia system allows for any source, whether is analog or digital, to be converted to HDMI.

And for those who have an existing home, the Crestron DigitalMedia system can be used – in most cases – without having to run new wiring in the walls! The existing Category 5 wire can be utilized to provide 1080p video, high-definition multi-channel audio, Ethernet, and control signals through a single connection.

The solution is simple: Crestron’s DigitalMedia will provide the best quality video and prepare you for every future eventuality.

Kaleidescape, Inc., creator of the movie server product category, announced shipment of the industry’s first Blu-ray movie server. The Kaleidescape System stores exact copies of your Blu-ray Discs on its hard drives, and transforms your collection of movies into a magical experience. Kaleidescape’s simple and elegant user interface makes choosing something to watch part of the fun.

The Kaleidescape Movie Guide enables an unparalleled movie-watching experience. High resolution cover art combined with a brief synopsis of each film and many other details make it entertaining to explore your collection of movies. Video bookmarks and triggers enable the system to start a movie instantly and automatically adjust lighting, curtains and screen masking during playback. With over 145,000 titles, Kaleidescape’s exclusive Movie Guide is the largest database of its kind.

“The simplicity and elegance that we have achieved for watching Blu-ray movies required significant hardware and software innovation, legal analysis and user interface design,” said Michael Malcolm, Kaleidescape’s founder, chairman and CEO. “My family and I enjoy the freedom to jump to a favorite scene in a movie or to any song in a concert. For the first time, all of our Blu-ray movies are literally at our fingertips, at any screen in our home.”

The new Kaleidescape Modular Disc Vault completes the Kaleidescape Blu-ray movie server. Paired with a Kaleidescape M-Class player, the disc vault imports, houses, and organizes your Blu-ray Discs. The copies stored on the server are then ready for instant playback. With a capacity of 100 discs, the Modular Disc Vault simplifies ownership by automating the import process. Any number of Modular Disc Vaults may be added to a system, but each must be connected to its own M-Class player.

The Modular Disc Vault is priced at $1,495 MSRP in the United States and Canada, and is available now. The M500 Player and M300 Player have been shipping since May 2010 and are priced at $3,995 and $2,495 MSRP, respectively, in the United States and Canada. Any Kaleidescape System can be upgraded to be a Blu-ray movie server with the addition of an M-Class player and a Modular Disc Vault.

We are very excited about the new ADMS system from Crestron.

The ADMS Intermedia Delivery System™ from Crestron® dramatically evolves and simplifies the way home entertainment is acquired and managed, by removing the boundaries between movies, music, TV, photos and the Internet.

For the first time, a whole world of digital media can be captured and transformed for easy-access, high-definition enjoyment. With its exclusive, revolutionary WorldSearch® feature, the ADMS doesn’t just serve the audio and video content you own — it locates and delivers anything you desire!

As an exciting new centerpiece in a Crestron home theater or multiroom audio system, the ADMS provides a powerful way to enjoy every type of content from a full array of sources:

Movies & Video

Online movies, TV, & videos through Netflix®, Hulu™, Metacafe®, Vimeo™, YouTube™, ESPN, CNN, ABC News, Comedy Central and many other online sources

Blu-ray Disc™ and DVDs

Home movies & video files in Windows Media®, MPEG4, MPEG2, MPEG, M2TS, MTS, MOV, DV, and AVI formats

Music

Imported CDs with high-quality AAC, WAV, WMA, or WMA Lossless encoding

iTunes Plus® libraries

Personal audio files including MP3, WMA, WMA Pro, WMA Lossless, M4A, AAC, AIFF, WAV, and FLAC

Photos

Family Photos — JPEG, GIF, BMP, and PNG

World Wide Web

Secure Internet Browsing with Adobe® Flash® and Microsoft® Silverlight™ support

Online streaming multimedia

Web-based e-mail

Crestron WorldSearch finds it all — quickly listing movie titles, streaming video clips, Internet TV programs and music files that match your search term — whether the content is in-house or out on the Web. Manage search results, view cover art and select — you’re in command, darting about the designer onscreen interface using a handheld remote, wireless keyboard, or convenient Crestron touchpanel[1].

The ADMS then utilizes premium graphics circuitry to upscale and enhance your selection, optimizing everything for the best possible HD home theater experience. Or, satisfy everyone in the house by locating musical artists, albums or songs and independently playing them in three separate rooms.

Not Just a Media Server — A New Standard in Media Delivery
Today, there’s a flood of sources for online music and video content. The problem is that they’re all fragmented, each with its own catalog of titles in a slew of different media formats requiring special software applications, hardware boxes, and user interfaces. To get access to everything that’s available, you have to search each source independently through its own proprietary interface until that movie, song or file is found.

Crestron Intermedia Delivery™ is the new paradigm for managing media. The ADMS consolidates and streamlines home and online source information, saving you countless minutes when seeking a music file, new blockbuster release, video clip or online TV episode. The ADMS has a beautiful, intuitive menu that guides you along the way, displaying art and data for music and movies, with multiple ways to find the precise content you want — quickly and easily.

The ADMS brings digital media together into one attractive solution, incorporating an audiophile-grade multimedia server, Blu-ray Disc-compatible DVD player, Web browser and streaming media player. With ADMS, Crestron combined the user interface and Internet connectivity, plus the download, storage, and playback capabilities of numerous disparate products into a unified package that’s more secure, reliable, fun to use and simpler to operate.

Intrigued? Let’s get into some of the features that make the ADMS with Intermedia Delivery the most exciting, interactive home entertainment solution Crestron has ever designed.

WorldSearch®
With the ADMS, The World is Your Server™. By tapping the ingenious engine that is WorldSearch, finding any media title is a simple, one-step task. Whether it’s a song that just popped into your head or the latest viral video, WorldSearch performs lightning fast keyword searches and scans the entire multimedia universe for every occurrence of any subject, intelligently sorting the results based on your preferences.

WorldSearch is amazingly agile. Examples of video sort preferences are:

Location: Video Library, Internet TV and Video Store

Match filter: Keyword or Exact Phrase

Runtime filter: Full-length Films, Entire TV Episodes or Video Shorts

Movie genre: Action, Adventure, Animation, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama

Sort By: Title, Year, Date Added, Rentals

Search for Cast and Directors (related to the current selection)

For example, typing the name of your favorite actor (using the optional wireless keyboard or touchpanel[1]) generates a lineup of cover art from all the movies in which they’ve appeared. Jog through the alphabetized images, checking out plot summaries, directors or casts if you’d like. Edit movie info for future reference. With a few button touches, you’re all set for the show.

In any event, finding a media needle in a haystack of entertainment sources just got easy!

On Demand and Always On Hand
Tired of making trips to the video store, or waiting for your DVDs to arrive in the mail? With onboard Netflix, the ADMS brings the largest selection of movies for rent or purchase right to your HD display. Complete online catalogs are updated daily, providing immediate access to new releases. And, since the ADMS includes a secure, custom browser, other online movie portals are just a click away.

In addition to online downloads, adding the optional 400-disc Blu-ray Changer[1,2] to the ADMS seamlessly integrates your entire collection of DVDs and high-definition Blu-ray Discs into the media library. Up to seven changers may be linked, providing ready access to an incredible 2,800 discs! Since they’re not “ripped” to the hard drive, copyrighted content can be stored and played legally for your personal enjoyment.

Music Access To The Max
Imagine having your entire music collection in one spot, and being able to find any playlist, album or track within seconds. Imagine album art and metadata beautifully gracing the room while the music plays. Imagine a bounty of album, artist and track commands at your fingertips as you smilingly browse, manage, preview and play your selections du jour. Welcome to a new world of music pleasure, courtesy of the ADMS.

The most popular audio formats, including iTunes Plus, WMA, AAC, and MP3 are easily imported from your networked PC, Mac or laptop using ADMS Connect™ to become part of your master library. Listeners in the home theater and two other rooms can then make their own music choices independently via a Crestron remote or touchpanel[1].

Multi-Purpose Blu-ray Disc™ Player
No need for a separate Blu-ray or DVD player! The ADMS-BR model includes a front-loaded optical disc drive that supports Blu-ray Discs and all types of video DVDs, including those you’ve burned yourself. Sit back and enjoy in maximum-impact HD, taking full advantage of the ADMS’ embedded video enhancement technology, which automatically upscales and adjusts standard-definition content. The ADMS displays metadata such as movie synopses and cast information. HDMI and S/PDIF audio outputs ensure that the movie will sound as great as it looks! On the music side, using the same optical drive, CDs are quickly imported with a selectable audio compression level and format, including lossless and uncompressed for the highest quality. Upon access, the ADMS displays the cover art, artist, title and tracks. The ADMS’ ultra-quiet design means there’s no worries about having it in your listening area, even during the softest musical passages.

HDMI® Theater AV Output
HDMI is the industry standard for high-performance digital video and audio connectivity. The ADMS features an HDMI output carrying 1080p HD video and uncompressed 7.1 surround sound, perfect for integration into a high-performance Crestron home theater. HDCP is fully implemented to ensure compliance with a complete range of digital video displays and projectors. In addition to HDMI, there are 5.1 capable S/PDIF audio and 7.1 analog audio outputs.

HDCP Ready
As the move to digital takes hold, an accelerating number of movie studios are using HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) to protect their DVDs and Blu-ray Discs against unauthorized copying. Viewing the HDCP encrypted content in its full HD format requires the source device to “authenticate” each display and signal processor in the system through an HDMI connection, before delivering an output signal. The ADMS’ advanced handling of HDCP helps ensure headache-free playback of all your content.

Customized, Secure Browsing
Why leave the comfort of your theater or living room when the ADMS gives you full access to the Internet right on you HD display? Instead of crowding the family around a tiny computer screen, the ADMS’ integrated Web browser lets you check email and access all your favorite Websites for news, scores and other information right from your favorite chair. Navigate the Web with ease using a touchpanel or keyboard[1], and open multiple sites at once using convenient tab viewing, everything scaled for optimal high-definition presentation.

Crestron developed its custom browser for the ADMS to provide maximum speed and a full-screen, high-resolution display in a totally secure environment. The browser is “locked down” to prevent the harmful installation of spyware or viruses so you can confidently surf the Internet without having to worry about corrupting the system. Menu options for trusted sites, security level and disabling pop-ups maximize browser safety. Windows security updates are verified and hosted by Crestron for automatic download when needed.

Internet TV Hits the Big Screen
The ADMS also provides an incomparable Internet TV experience, enabling instant access to the best online television content from popular sites such as Hulu, Vimeo, Metacafe, YouTube, ESPN, CNN, ABC News, Comedy Central and others. The ADMS boosts the resolution and image quality of what it finds on the web, impressively delivering it to your HD home theater display. It employs a leading-edge graphics platform with excellent scaling and video post-processing. Streaming TV never looked so good!

Protected, Boundless Media Storage
The ADMS is designed to be more secure and reliable than any other home media server solution. As you can imagine, storing a large collection of HD video and lossless audio requires a lot of disc space. The ADMS’ standard 1 terabyte (1,000 gigabytes) of storage is kept safe using RAID 1 technology, utilizing dual redundant hard drives to maintain two copies of your data for extreme reliability. Standard capacity is approximately 45,000 songs (WMA Lossless format) or over 400 standard-definition movies. So depending on your library, you may like to increase capacity.

Expanding media storage is easy with the addition of the CEN-NAS-4TB 4 terabyte Network Attached Storage appliance[1]. It comes pre-configured for the ADMS and features four hot-swappable 1TB hard drives with RAID 5 protection, all in a single rack space. It can store about 1,500 standard-definition movies or 150,000 songs! The ADMS seamlessly extends storage across any number of Network Attached Storage units that are added to your system, and also provides direct connection of external USB and 1394 drives for additional flexibility.

Multi-Format File Support
The ADMS supports a wide range of compressed, lossless, and streaming media formats, including Windows Media, QuickTime, and MPEG1/2 and MPEG4. Even your DV, MP4, and M2TS home video files can be stored and enjoyed with ADMS. Audio files imported from iTunes Plus libraries or a networked computer can be encoded in high-quality MP3, WMA (including Pro and Lossless), M4A, AAC, AIFF, WAV, and FLAC formats.

Easy Setup, Interaction and Control
The ADMS affords streamlined setup from its front panel. No extra equipment is needed for initial setup — just power and an Ethernet connection. The front panel’s selector knob, clean buttons and adjustable backlit LCD display even provide the means to view, select and control playback of audio files stored in the ADMS’ media library.

With a display connected, browsing through albums and tracks, importing CDs, and organizing a complete music and video library are fun and easy using the onscreen user menu. Displayed on your HD video display, the beautiful graphical interface affords intuitive search and playback of all your digital media content.

Every ADMS installation is driven by a Crestron control system[1]. Touchpanels, remotes, keypads, and computers can be used to control the ADMS from all over your home. From any touchpanel, you can view your entire media collection (with album cover art!) and control every function of the ADMS as it is integrated with the rest of your system. Complete programming is simplified using Crestron SystemBuilder™ software.

Home theater automation makes the experience ultra-convenient and impressively modern. The movie begins, and automatically the lights dim, the shades descend and the room temperature adjusts. Your Crestron dealer can set this up and integrate it with whole-house control and security.

Designed-in Performance, Reliability & Support
The ADMS was engineered from top to bottom for high performance, cool-running operation and the smallest possible “acoustic footprint.” Extensive volumetric and heat generation testing produced an innovative enclosure design that runs cool and quiet so you can put it where it’s accessible to the user.

The Windows Vista® Ultimate operating system was selected for its video pipeline optimizations and is partitioned to further protect your media library. Security updates and other enhancements for the OS are fully tested and then hosted by Crestron.

The internal Crestron Watchdog constantly monitors the status of the ADMS, automatically resetting the system in the event of an error. All content and system files on the internal hard drive can be backed up automatically to an external drive. Remote access (via VNC server) allows Crestron customer support or the dealer to assess most errors and restore proper functionality without ever going onsite.

The Bottom Line
The ADMS Intermedia Delivery System sets a new standard in home entertainment, reinventing the way we think about and experience media. Why is it “revolutionary”? Because it changes behavior. It moves people away from their computer screens to take fuller advantage of their high-definition displays and surround sound systems. It saves precious leisure time by greatly streamlining the effort it takes to find and play media, making the audio-visual world friendlier. And, it enhances the whole entertainment experience, finding more media of interest than you’re likely to find by any other means.
